The application group steel consists of materials which are ground with CBN as the abrasive. These are materials containing carbide formers like iron, vanadium, molybdenum etc. Furthermore high temperature resistant turbine materials belong to this group.
Also the dressing technology for grinding wheels traditionally is part of the steel grinding process.
WENDT offers a wide range of grinding and dressing tools in nearly all shapes and geometries.
The tools are mainly used in the following bonding systems:
Resin Bond
Uncomplicate grinding operations combined with low mechanical and thermal influence on the workpiece are typical for resin bonds. Main applications are
- CNC tool grinding of HSS drills and HSS cutters
- top & bottom grinding of piston rings and pump parts
Metal Sintered Bond
These extremely wear resistant and profile consistent bonds are used for
- profile grinding operations
- crushing (profiling method)
- peel grinding of shafts
Vitrified Bond
The advantage of the vitrified bond is the excellent cutting ability and profile ability combined with good wear and profile resistance. The vitrified bonding structure offers enough space for long chipping steels and is successfully applied for
- flat, OD and ID grinding operations of various parts
- grinding of camshafts and crankshafts (peel grinding, Quickpoint)
- finishing of turbine parts
- profile grinding (excellent wheel profiling)
- single- and double side grinding of steel parts (injection parts, setting and bearing rings)
Electroplated (Galvanic) Bond
Electroplated grinding tools stand out due to extraordinary good cutting ability. Balancing the low life time which is caused by the single diamond layer, the tools can be replated several times. Main applications are:
- grinding of slots
- various profile grinding operations
- pregrinding of camshafts and crankshafts
- pregrinding of turbine parts
- gear grinding
Dressing Tools
Diamond dressing tools are distinguished in rotating dressing tools (like form rolls and profile rolls) and non-rotating dressing tools (e.g. single point dressers, multipoint dressers, dressing plates, etc.) in regard to their geometry and use.
Form dressing rolls are used to generate a profile by CNC-controlled contouring with kinematics similar to profiling by means of single point dressers.
Using profile rolls profiles can be directly generated into the grinding wheel. This application does allow rapid profiling.
Diamond dressing rolls are a established essential part in modern manufacturing technology mainly used in long-run production. Highest accuracy and complex profiles can be realize. In contrast to the dressing process with fix dressers, the application of rotary dressers is more flexible. The variation of the speed ratio (qd) between dressing tool and grinding wheel periphery speed allows a purposeful influence on the grinding wheel topography. Additionally, the big number of cutting diamonds in the surface of the dressing rolls gives a considerable higher profile life time than for fix dressers.
