Overview
Glass is the oldest material entirely invented by man. At the same time, glass is not an element and comes in many varieties and kinds. It may be, but does not have to be transparent; it is brittle and fragile; it can be worked both into hollow containers of all kinds and into flat sheets.
Essential for the machining of glass is the use of diamond as abrasive. WENDT grinding tools for the machining of hard materials comprise the complete range of international used shapes and geometries.
The tools are mainly used in the following bonding systems:

Resin Bond
Uncomplicated grinding operations combined with low mechanical and thermal influence on the work piece are typical for resin bonds.
Therefore resin bond is mainly used if the edge quality and the requested surface quality is very important. Main applications are:
  • Cutting of thin-walled tubes
  • Grinding smooth flat surfaces capable of being polished
  • Grinding the mouth edges of drinking glasses
  • Grinding of mirrors

Metal Sintered Bond
These extremely wear resistant and profile consistent bonds are used for:
  • Every kind of profile grinding operations
  • Cutting operations
  • Segmented cup and peripheral wheels for high removal rates

Electroplated (Galvanic) Bond
Electroplated grinding tools stand out due to extraordinary good cutting ability. Balancing the low life time which is caused by the single diamond layer, the tools can be replated several times. Main applications are:
  • Grinding and cutting of glass bonding materials
  • Various profile grinding operations
  • Producing thin cuts in expensive special glasses
  • Cutting large cross-sections with galvanic band saws
  • Use of flexible diamond tools
